Altaf tours Kangan constituency, inspects pace on developmental works | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 19: To ensure safe drinking water facilities to the people of far flung areas, the government has taken up 24 Water Supply Schemes under National Rural Drinking water Project and District Sector for involving a cost of Rs 50.79 crore for the purpose. The upcoming schemes would benefit a total of 1.64 lakh souls of 104 habitations of the Kangan constituency. The information was given to the Minister for Forests and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad during his extensive tour of the area conducted to inspect the pace of work under execution and to listen to the grievances of the people. The concerned functionaries accompanying the Minister informed that the WS schemes, out of which many are nearing completion, would provide safe potable Water to the people of the villages lacking this facility. The functionaries further said that so far an accumulative amount Rs 29.47 crore have been expended on the WWS projects and the work on all the schemes was is full swing.During his tour, the Minister inspected pace of progress on five water supply schemes including Search Bonepora costing to Rs. 2.81 crore, Wayil costing to Rs. 68.35 lakhs, Chettergul costing to Rs. 2.20 crore, Poshkar costing to Rs. 63.05 lakhs and Padpatti Poshkar cost to Rs. 12.36 lakhs. The Minister was informed that so far an amount of Rs. 1.33 crore, Rs. 5.00 lakh, Rs.1.64 crore, Rs. 16.70 lakhs and Rs. 5.00 lakhs respectively have been incurred on these projects. Earlier, the Minister distributed cheques to 19 peoples of Naranag village, Kangan amounting to Rs. 1 lakh each under the scheme conversation of residential house in to paying guest type accommodation. The Minister was informed that 17 schemes are going in Kangan constituency under NRDWSP at an estimated cost of Rs. 23.18 crore. This will cover 72 NOs of habitations benefitting population of 1.38 lakhs. So far Rs. 20.40 crore has been spent by end of March 2012. Under district sector 7 water supply schemes are coming up at an estimated cost of 17.61 crore which will cover 32 habitations and provide safe drinking water to 52911 souls. An amount of Rs. 9.7 crore has been already spent on these schemes. These schemes would be completed by end of this year. The allocation for these schemes has been earmarked 2 crores during the current financial year. The schemes which are going under district sector are Water Supply Schemes Mammer, Gujjar Basti Prang, Haripora Ganiwan, Hari Dursum, Arhama and Nadir-i-Bagh. He asked the engineers to expedite the pace of work and ensure use of quality material, besides completion in a stipulated time frame. He said that provision of safe drinking water for all was the part of the government's major policy of providing all basic amenities to the people of far off areas. The Minister called upon the PHE functionaries to ensure quality work and creation of durable assets that last for long time and benefit many generations to come. He underlined the need for judicious use of funds with a focus on sustainable development. The Minister was accompanied by District Development Commissioner Showkat Ahmed Mir and superintendent Engineer PHE and other senior officers of the PHE Department |
