| National Conference rakes up human rights in Assembly | | | Jammu, Jan 29 The opposition National Conference today cornered the government in the state Assembly over the issue of human rights violations in Kashmir valley. Members belonging to the National Conference including Abdul Rahim Rather, Mubarik Gul, Dr Mehboon Beg, Mohd.Syed Akhoon and Ali Mohd.Sagar protested against fake encounters in the Kashmir valley. They said that six fake encounters had taken place in recent one month and despite this the government had was ready to hold an enquiry. NC members stated that that mere attachment of four police officials, including one SSP was not enough and they demanded stern action against all police officials involved in fake encounters. The opposition members protested loudly when Mangat Ram Sharma informed the House that the Government will give its reply late in the afternoon. Refusal of the government to come up with an effective answer, provoked the opposition members leading to a walkout by Mubarak Gul. The House again witnessed noisy scenes when National Conference member Mohd. Sayed Akhoon referred to the police lathicharge on Moharrum procession in Srinagar. He condemned the police action and putting of some Shia leaders under house arrest. Akhoon staged a walkout shouting slogans against the police action, when government failed to come up with a reply on the issue.
