| Mankotia creates uproar over PeT list, demands cancellation | | Govt to bring ordinance to resolve the issue: Azad | | Jammu Jan 29 Uproar was created in the state assembly today by Panthers Party MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia, who rushed into the well of the House and threatened to stage a Dharna. Alleging that the PeT candidates shortlisted for Udhampur were outsiders and only half of them belonged to the home district, he demanded cancellation of the list. Soon after the question hour Panthers Party MLA said that in Udhampur district 235 candidates were shortlisted for being appointed as physical education teachers. Out of this 107 belonged to other districts and this was a serious matter. He stated that some of the candidates belonging to Udhampur district were being posted in the Kashmir. He said “when Kashmiri Pandit employees were not being posted in Kashmir because of threat perception, why are people of Udhampur being asked to work in Kashmir. Don’t they face militant threat “? Former education Minister,Mr Harsh Dev Singh, supported Mankotia contention and asked the state government to resolve this issue. On this Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad intervened and said “it is not a matter of one district but of the entire state.” He announced that a bill for rectifying the wrong could be tabled in the Assembly during the current session and if the same could not be done an ordinance could be promulgated. He, however, said that the future course of action depended much on a court case pending in Supreme Court. Not satisfied with the response of Chief Minister’s , Mankotia marched to the well of the House and threatened to stage a dharna. Intervening in the matter, Harsh Dev Singh suggested that House committee be constituted for examining the matter. The chief Minister agreed to this suggestion and said that he had no objection in discussing the issue with the members whenever they desired. |
