United Cong a red signal to Omar | | | early times report Srinagar, May 19: The coming together of vertically divided PCC, between Azad and Soz loyalists, at a convention in Srinagar is surely a warning signal for chief minister Omar Abdullah. The National Conference, especially the CM, has been enjoying the fruits of power at behest of division in the Congress, though at times engineered by it also. The NC is not comfortable with the idea of sharing power and now that it was forced to do so, it benefited from the divisions in the Congress. It's for this reason that NC didn't deem it fit to hand over the portfolio of the R&B ministry held by it even after about two-year. The CM himself has infact even discounted the claims of not only taking back its share of ministry but also of the cabinet expansion. However, things will not be same again. The united face put up by the Congress at Srinagar by coming together of GN Azad and Prof Saif ud-din Soz, and the way things were held in a smooth manner, is clear reflection that the party president Sonia Gandhi has put her foot down in running the affairs of the party in the State. The Cong president doesn't want to take things and the affairs of the party in the State in a casual manner and also doesn't want to give an impression of this. It's only because of it that both factions, accommodated suitable in PCC list, agreed to pass a unanimous resolution for the selection of new PCC president. The NC has been dictating terms, even after repeated resentment of Congreess leadership to the party president, because of the proximity of Omar Abdullah with Cong general secretary Rahul Gandhi. However, after the reverses especially in UP, Rahul too had been forced to reconsider the alignment of coalition in the State, as the government here has completed its half-term and specualations of early elections at the Centre are doing rounds. Running a government is a numerical game and for this reason each and single seat is important and this understanding has gone deep into the Congress circle. The PCC elections has been held on the directions and aspirations of Rahul Gandhi and it's apparent that he also send signals to the waring factions to drop their differences is also a red signal to Omar Abdullah.
