| Is NC a mainstream political organization? | | Sagar & Separatists | | RUSTAM
JAMMU, May 19: Speaking on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah the other day in YK Pora, Qazigund (Kulgam), Law and Parliamentary Affairs and Rural Development Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that Omar Abdullah is ready to step down if the separatist leaders are willing to become a part of the mainstream and contest polls and appreciated the separatists for the interest they have started taking in developmental issues as well as issues of governance. He made this statement while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a NC rally. "Though the political solution of Kashmir is a prerequisite for overall peace and progress but, at the same time, we have to address the day-to-day problems of the common people," he also, inter-alia, said.
One would surely appreciate the suggestion of Sagar that the separatists should join the mainstream and contest elections and that Omar Abdullah would quit the Chief Minister's office in the event of the separatists accepting his suggestion. At the same time, however, one would surely question the very credentials of the NC to which he and the Chief Minister belong. For, what he suggested was both amusing and misleading. His suggestion was amusing and misleading because the NC has always, like all other Kashmir-based separatist and communal organizations, played, and continues to play, communal politics and indulged in soft secessionism. For, the NC has always, like all the Kashmir-based separatist outfits, sought to hold the common Kashmiri Muslims aloof from the national mainstream and consistently questioned not only the very accession of the state with India but also the very intentions of New Delhi to bring the state under the ambit of certain central laws and institutions.
As a matter of fact, the so-called mainstream NC has caused more damage as compared to the damage caused by the separatists. To be more exact, the NC, which survives on the politics of deceit and false and negative propaganda, has been, unlike the Kashmir-based separatist outfits, consistently wrecking the constitution and state polity from within and it is wrecking the constitution and subverting the polity from within with the help of Indian taxpayers' money, with certain elements in the central establishment extending all possible support to it.
The only difference between the NC and similar other so-called Kashmir-based mainstream organizations like the CPI-M and the separatist outfits lies in their methodology. The separatist outfits have been, for instance, subverting the polity from outside and striving to achieve separation from India at once and the NC has been following a different methodology to achieve the same goal but in stages or step-by-step. Otherwise, there is no difference whatever between the so-called Kashmir-based mainstream organizations and the separatist and religious outfits. It would be no exaggeration to say that it is the NC and certain elements in New Delhi who are the mothers of all ills facing not just Kashmir but the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir.
