Higher educational institution in backward areas on priority: Azad
Says proposal to this effect already with centre

Jammu, January 29
Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad reiterated the government’s keen resolve to catapult development of education in far-off and cut-off areas adding that these areas require focus of attention for their backwardness.
Replying suplementaries to a question by Mr. Kafiul-ur-Rehman and other legislators in Legislative Assembly today Mr. Azad said that he had discussed the issue of opening new colleges and higher educational institutions in these areas including Tangdhar with Prime Minister highlighting the importance of such a creation. He said he has found these areas lagging behind inn the development of education especially in the field of higher education for their faroffness. He said he has also observed that some urban colleges are highly populated with students with more than six to seven thousand enrollment making smooth conduct of education un-manageable as such establishment of additional colleges in these areas is also required.
Chief Minister said that central approval to his proposal for opening up of new colleges and higher education institutions is likely to come this year, helping the state government to carry forward its plan of expansion in this regard.
In reply to main question by Mr. Kafiul-ur-Rehman, he said during his visit to Tangdhar on February 5, 2006 he had announced in a public meeting that a Degree College shall be established at Tangdhar within a period of two years and necessary steps to establish the college are being initiated.
Mr. Azad in reply to a question by Mr. Shahjahan Dar and asked by Mr. Mubarik Gul in the House said that land measuring 65 kanals and 2 marlas under survey No. 33 and 44 situated in estate Iddgah at Srinagar have been identified for construction of building for Women’s College Nawakadal, Srinagar. He said the proposal for transfer of land from revenue to Higher Education department has been approved by state Cabinet vide Cabinet decision No.11/02 dated January 24, 2007 and orders to this effect are being issued by the Revenue Department. He said JKPCC has been requested to prepare project report and estimates for construction of College complex.
In reply to another question by Mr. G. M. Jan, the Chief Minister said that in the Cabinet-cum-District Development Board meeting held at Poonch on June 10, 2006, it was decided that ITI training should be provided to educated youth in the uncovered areas.
Presently three ITI’s in district Poonch are functioning at Poonch, Surankote and Mendhar for imparting training to different engineering and non-engineering courses under Craftsman Training Scheme.
