Dr Surinder Jain warned the SASB and State Government of serious consequences in case the yatra period was decreased. Ridiculing the SASB plea that tracks can not be cleared by June 4, Dr Jain said no such argument is made by the authorities making arrangements for Kailash Mansarover yatra which is situated at an altitude of over 22,000 feet while holy cave of Swami Amarnath is situated on an altitude of 13,000 feet. Likewise the Kedarnath temple which is situated at an altitude of over 12,000 feet remains open from April to November, he added. He said that in case the Board is not in a position to clear the tracks by June 4 and make full arrangements for pilgrims, they should assign the task to Shiv Bhakts. He also criticized those creating the hue and cry that the yatra was threatening the environment said that Hindus are environment friendly and Vedas and Puranas are testimony to it. Supporting the VHP decision to run a parallel yatra of Swami Amarnath Ji on Jeshtpurnima falling on June 4 in defiance of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) decision to start the annual yatra on June 25, Jagat Guru Shankaracharya Devanand Ji Maharaj of Badri Peeth today said that the holy yatra should run from traditional date. He also congratulated the Hindus of J&K for victory of 2008 Amarnath Andolan and said today again curbs are being made on duration of yatra and the same will not be allowed. He said people of entire country are solidly behind the Hindus of J&K on the yatra issue and they will not tolerate any change in traditional date and duration. The two -month long yatra should commence on Jesht Purnima and culminate on Sawan Purnima as has been a tradition from Puranic period. Dr Jain while also lauded the role of former Governor Lt Gen S K Sinah saying that former Governor had recommended that the yatra should run for two months but at that time the Government had opposed his suggestion. But at present the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and administration was willing for two month yatra but Board is opposing the same. Swami Ji of Kailash Dham Chinore also demanded that the Board be immediately disbanded and a new Board having the representation of Shiv Bhakts be constituted in its place as it has hurt the sentiments of Hindus. He said the Board has no locus standi to take decision on yatra date and time and the same should be left to Hindu bodies. Swami Rameshwar Dass Mahant of Purani Mandi temple and VHP state president Dr Rama Kant Dubey were among others present on the dais.
