‘Pull out of coalition….. alliance serving no purpose…….'
Worker 'grouse' at Congress delegate session unnerves NC

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 20: Much publicized delegate session of Congress may well have or not served the purpose for which party leadership decided to convene it at Srinagar, which is the capital of governance these days. The whipping up on delay in empowerment for panchayats and the blame game 'drama' apart, a serious political development that emerged was the loud cry from the workers in front of the Congress stalwarts it was time to call it a day with National Conference in terms of continuance of alliance with the former in coalition government. Sudden and unexpected outcry and the slogans like ..'sever ties with NC…..snap all relations…….it is serving no interest for the party….it is doing damage to the Congress at grass root level..', in one vehement voice in the midst of the session was embarrassing not only for the Congress leadership but has certainly not gone down well in NC hierarchy.
That Congress workers and even middle rung cadres are not happy with the way ruling NC is treating them at various levels and in almost all spheres , much like that from opposition is a grouse they have been nourishing for a long time and even expressing it time and again before the PCC leadership and even during their interaction with visiting dignitaries from New Delhi. But Congress stalwarts like Janardhan Diwedi, Mohan Prakash would not have anticipated or imagined that outburst of anger and resentment would surface at the delegate session, that too in a bold and straight manner. What came as a rude shock perhaps was the expression of majority of the delegates from Kashmir particularly that it was time to pull out of coalition as NC is not allowing the party to grow and flourish at the grass root level nor taking cadres seriously in any matter related to governance.

Even as the stalwarts of the party, including Union Health Minister and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC president Prof Saif-u-DIn Soz tried to explain the 'mantra of 'coalition compulsions' apparently in order to pacify the feelings of bitterness and dissatisfaction among the workers , it did not work as the magnitude of discontentment and feeling of being treated as secondary partners in the ruling coalition is deep and intense. Seeing the mood and temper of the audience from where the voices of discontent and anger emerged , the leaders from Delhi tried to handle the situation by posing a counter question as to whether Congress and its workers are ready to face the elections in the event of Congress pulling out of coalition, the response , perhaps on unexpected and surprising lines for the leaders was a big 'yes'. This only goes on to demonstrate to what extent party workers and even senior functionaries are disappointed with the ruling National Conference.
This also goes on to show to what extent Congress ministers have left this simmering discontent to go unnoticed and uncared and unattended , all for the sake of sticking to chairs and power. Though Diwedi and Prakash have assured delegates that their 'displeasure on various counts would be discussed with appropriated quarters in New Delhi, the development has rightly so made many a stalwarts in the NC uncomfortable and unnerved.
