PCC pays rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi

JAMMU, May 21: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) in a meeting paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 21st death anniversary today at PCC HQ Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu.
Dharam Pal Sharma Ex-MP and senior Vice President PCC was the chief guest on the occasion.
President DCC Jammu Urban Om Chopra, Ex-MLA presided over the function, which was attended by senior functionaries of PCC, District Congress Committees, Block Congress Committees, frontal organizations and cells.
Paying rich tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, the speakers one after the other described Rajiv Gandhi as a great visionary leader who led the country towards the challenges of 21st century.
They said it was the vision of Rajiv Gandhi that India has emerged as the leader of the World in information technology. They said when Rajiv talked about information and communication technology, the leaders of the main opposition party criticized him in side and out side the parliament because they could not understand the challenges of 21st century.
It was because of his vision that whole World is looking towards India for addressing their problem of unemployment.
PCC leaders further said that to ensure constitution right to the people at the grass root level Rajiv Gandhi has brought 73rd and 74th Amendments in the Constitution but it was unfortunate that this amendment did not take place in Jammu and Kashmir, even toady. They also referred to the lowering of voting age from 21 to 18 years to ensure participation of youth in the democracy.
They said it is Congress party whose history is full of sacrifices, which has the vision and talent of leadership to lead the country towards overall progress and prosperity.
Praising the leadership of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, they said it is again Congress party which provided every citizen with legal right of information through Right to Information Act (RTI Act). They also referred unique legislation of guaranting right to work through MNERGA.
They also exhorted the party men to take pledge on this occasion to follow the principal of Congress party and the path shown by great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Moulana Abdul Kalam Azad, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and strengthen the hands of Sonia Gandhi. They said the future of the country and Congress party is bright under the dynamic leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile, a similar progr amme was organised at PCC Headquarter at Srinagar.
