Traffic signal lights to be made functional in Jammu soon | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 21 : The traffic signal lights would be soon made functional in the Jammu city at 30 important crossings for better management of the vehicular movement in the winter Capital. This was stated by Minister for Rural Development and Panchyati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar, who is here on the rotational weeklong tour to attend the Jammu Summer Secretariat. Sagar asked the concerned to expedite the trial and make sure that the system was made functional at the earliest. He said the electronic traffic regulation system has already been started in summer capital as the same has become imperative to cope with the increasing traffic rush in the twin capitals. The Minister was chairing a meeting of Divisional Level Officers here today to review the delivery of public services, pace on the ongoing developmental and civic works besides, general law and order situation in Jammu region. Sagar, had a detailed review of essential services, including power, water and other civic amenities, besides various issues concerning to the people of the region. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Pardeep Gupta, Inspector General of Police, Dilbag Singh, Deputy Commissioner Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineers PDD Shanaz Goni, Chief Engineer PHE B. R. Dogra, Director Agriculture Jammu Ajay Khajuria, Director School Education Jammu G. A. Qureshi, Director Tourism R. S. Mehta, Director CAPD Parvez Malik, Vice Chairman JDA Sarita Chauhan, Commissioner JMC Kuldeep Khajuria, Superintendent Engineer PHE Vinod Luthra, XEN PHE Mr. Ashok Gandotra and other officers from various departments attended the meeting. The Divisional Commissioner apprised the Minister about the Power and water supply scenario, besides the general Law and order situation. The Minister was also informed that in metered areas, the power curtailment is of 3 hrs, while in un-metered areas there is 8 hrs cut. Chief Engineer PDD informed that due to technical snag recently, there was problem in supply of power for 3-4 days which was immediately restored. The Minister laid special emphasis on maintaining power supply and repairs of damaged feeder transformers on priority basis. He directed PDD to keep close check on power theft which result in power breakdowns to the much inconvenience of the consumers. He called for minimum curtailment of power so that people may not suffer in the hot summer conditions. He also stressed for maintaining cleanliness in the city, particularly around hospitals, educational institutions and religious places. He asked the JMC to avoid dumping of garbage in public places and ensure regular lifting of the same to avoid breeding of mosquitoes and spread of infections. The CAPD Department was instructed to ensure regular supply of food grains, kerosene and LPG.Chief Engineer PHE informed the meeting that there was no scarcity of water in Jammu city but problems are created due to power failure. The Minister directed the PDD to ensure 24 hrs power supply to essential feeders of PHE so that regular water supply would not be affected. |
