Overhaul power distribution system in Kashmir : Tarigami | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 21 : Demanding overhaul of power distribution system in the Jammu and Kashmir, the Communist Party of India (M) also expressed concern over the recurring damages to electric transformers across the state. The State Secretary of the CPI(M) Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami in a statement here this afternoon has exhorted the government to overhaul power distribution system to avoid public wrath. He rued the phenomenon of recurring damages to transformers across the length and breadth of the state. He said, the government should strengthen the men and machinery in the divisional and district workshops and ensure that damaged transformers are timely repaired so that consumers do not suffer on account of electricity failure. "Lack of accountability and regular monitoring in the department have led to complete inertia among its rank and file putting the consumers to tremendous hardships," he said. "Why should our students, aged and other consumers suffer for months together after a transformer is damaged and why should the consumers be charged with tariff when they are deprived of the electricity for weeks together" he said, adding that due to long black outs a simmering discontent is brewing among people against the department. |
