Jammu-based activists condemned India in Mirpur
Right To Self-Determination
5/22/2012 12:09:09 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 21: Two Jammu-based so-called intellectuals and peace activists have unleashed a hate-India campaign in Pakistan-occupied-Jammu& Kashmir. They are disliked in Jammu and Ladakh for their perverted views on Jammu and Kashmir and for their hobnobbing with Kashmiri separatists and their mentor Pakistan. One of them holds the Washington-based Pakistani agent of Kashmir origin Ghulam Nabi Fai in high esteem and appreciates his efforts for internationalizing the Kashmir issue and influencing the international opinion on Jammu and Kashmir. The other is heading a party which is non-functional, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Conference. He is none other than Krishan Dev Sethi whom only a handful of leftists and Kashmiri separatists know for obvious reasons.
They participated in the day-long "Intra-Jammu & Kashmir Conference" in Mirpur on May 17 and spoke against India and in favour of right to self-determination. The meet was organized by former Chief Justice of POJK High Court Justice Abdul Majeed Mallick and attended by a large number of anti-India elements. Mallick is a staunch supporter of Kashmiri separatists and he has been lobbying on behalf of Pakistan since years.
The very next day, these Jammu-based so-called intellectuals and peace activists addressed a press conference at Mirpur. It was not a press conference. It was a blistering attack on India and everything Indian. While one of them demanded "early formation of International tribunal to probe" what he called "massive human rights abuses in Indian Kashmir to bring the perpetrators to justice", the other also suggested almost the same thing. Denouncing the "human rights violations in Kashmir", Sethi demanded "constitutional or an international tribunal to probe into the cases of the recent unearthing of graves of over 2800 of unmarked graves in Kashmir Valley. He also demanded "open trial of perpetrators" to bring them to "justice" and urged the UN to "move ahead for condemning the ongoing human rights violations".
As for the other "peace activist", he not only condemned India in Mirpur for "human rights violations in Kashmir" but also demanded "withdrawal of the AFSPA and Public Safety Act, unconditional release of all political detenus (read rebels), withdrawal of cases registered against them in the Indian-held Jammu and Kashmir State to pave way for the resolution of Kashmir issue in line with the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir" (read Kashmir). He denounced the AFSPA and PSA as "draconian" and, in addition, suggested that "these measures (withdrawal of AFSPA and PSA, unconditional release of rebels and withdrawal of cases registered against them) could be important confidence building measures to reach settlement of Kashmir issue through the achievement of the much-awaited right to self-determination of the people of the entire Himalayan state".
There was nothing new in what these Jammu-based "peace activists" said. In fact, they reiterated their age-old anti-India stand that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and its future needs to be determined in accordance with the will of the people of Kashmir. Hence, what they said did not surprise anyone in Jammu. However, what shocked and surprised the well-wishers of the country was their concerted attempt in POJK to tarnish the image of India and the Indian nation.
Who permitted them to visit POJK and pour venom on the Indian state? Who gave them the mandate to speak on behalf of the entire population of Jammu and Kashmir? Those who permitted them to visit POJK and paint the Indian nation black have undoubtedly caused an affront to the self-respect of all those who hail India as their motherland and say day in and day out that they would not allow another communal partition of India to pander to communalists and separatists. Will the Government of India take cognizance of what these so-called peace activists did in POJK and bring them to justice? This is a must. We are not a banana republic. We have to act against the rogue elements.
