VHP chalks out strategy to start parallel yatra | BSP warns against curtailment of pilgrimage period | | early times report JAMMU, May 21: To discuss arrangements for starting the holy Amarnath yatra on Jesht Purnima falling on June 4, the VHP held a series of meetings here today. The meetings besides the VHP and Bajrang Dal (BD) office beaers were also attended by activists of various social and religious organizations. According to sources meeting decided the arrangements for Boarding and lodging of about 50,000 Bajrangis reaching here from different parts of the country on June 2 to participate in the yatra next day. The VHP international spokesman Dr Surinder Jain who was in the town yesterday has issued directives to the cadres of his organization and BD activists to ensure the tumultuous welcome of the Bajrangis on their arrival in Winter Capital. The meeting also decided transport arrangements from Jammu to Baltal for the pilgrims and urged the authorities of SASB to ensure the clearance of track especially from Baltal side to holy cave so that the yatris will not face any difficulty enroute. The meeting was informed that Jesht Astami being an auspicious date for the commencement of yatra as per tradition so there will be no deviation in VHP programme so for as the commencement of yatra is concerned, sources added. During these meetings it was made clear to Government that any move to stop the yatra Will have nation-wide repercussions as Bajrangis will resist the move strongly, soruces said, adding the SASB and the Government was also taken to task for its rigid stand on the duration of yatra which is two months as per the Puranic version and there will be no deviation in that. The meetings also criticized the SASB for curtailing the yatra since Governor N N Vohra took its chairman in 2008 to appease the separatists. It said the people from all shades of opinion including the members of Gujajr community were supporting the two month long yatra. Meanwhile Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in a meeting here today held under the chairmanship of its state president Tulsi Dass Langeh has strongly condemned the change in the schedule date of Swami Amarnath yatra by reducing it to 39 days only. Addressing the meeting Mr Langeh said that the management committees or boards are formed for the development, upkeep and better arrangements of religious institutions. After these boards start becoming hurdles and cause of tension in day to day religious affairs and performance of religious rituals they deserve condemnation. Langeh said the recent action of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) for reducing the period of yatra are highly condemnable and demanded that the decision regarding the duration of this holy yatra should be left to the convenience of pilgrims and not on the will and wishes of the Board. Addressing the meeting Rakesh Wazir state general secretary BSP said leaving aside religious sentiments the Amarnath yatra provided livelihood to lacs of people of the state. He said the people are not in favour of curtailment of the yatra on the wishes of some anti national elements. The decision to reduce the yatra period is objectionable and will be strongly resisted by the masses, he added. Wazir further said that SASB should focus its attention on arrangements for pilgrims and development so that the yatra can run for entire year. The facilities like providing cable car or covered tracks so that the people throughout the year could have darshan of Swami Amarnath Ji. The meeting among others was attended by ex MLA Som Nath, Yash Paul Bhagat, Som Nath Magotra, Rattan Lal Bhagat, Girdhari Lal, Ajay Singh, Dr Harjeet and Mohinder Kashyap.
