Early Times Report
Jammu, May 22 : Expressing concern over future of the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, the Jammu and Kashmir Pahari People's Movement has drafted a road map for addressing the aspirations of the people of this region and has presented two options for the same.
In a press statement issued here, Chief Executive of the movement Shahbaz Khan has said that Poonch and Rajouri districts are unique districts of the state along with Line of Control bordering Pakistani controlled area and the people have confronted various problems after Independence in 1947, 1965 and 1972 when the war broke out between the two countries.
He said that the area remained neglected on all fronts due to the uncertain situation. He said that it can be taken out from the era of backwardness to the development only when Government conceded either option -granting Hill Council Status to the area or restoration of state status to Poonch.
Khan said that when the Kashmir's are talking for themselves and Jammuites have their own aspirations, they felt the need to propose future road map for the welfare of twin border districts.
"We have almost completed work on Rajouri Poonch-Road map and we will soon present the same to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Governor NN Vohra", Khan said adding that they are proposing the restoration of State status to Poonch and if the option is not possible then the status of Hill Council be granted to the area on the pattern of Ladakah and Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Councils.
Khan said that they are not demanding anything new from the Government and they are just demanding to restore the status of Poonch.
"If Government has some problem in it let they click the other option and grant the Area Hill Council status", he said, adding that the experiment of Hill Council has also been done in Ladakh and Kargil and other parts of India and people have seen drastic results.
"Kashmiri leadership speak about their own area and Jammu leadership never consider us as a part of Jammu so we want to live on the pattern of the people of Ladakh and Kargil", he said, adding "Let the formula be applied in this area".
