Inter-school competitions of Jammu district gets underway
JKPS faces KCPS in boys' U-17 basketball semis

jammu, May 22 : Semifinals line-up has been drawn in both under-14 and under-17 age categories of boys' inter-school competitions of Jammu district in basketball, organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at different venues, here today. Teams reaching the last four stages in under-17 category were KC Public School, JP World School, St. Peter's and JK Public made it to the semifinals of under-17 category. Now, in the semifinals, to be played tomorrow at Police Stadium, Gulshan Ground, KC Public shall take on St. Peter's while JK Public shall be playing against JP World School. The Results: Quarterfinals: J P World bt Model Academy by 12 (27-15) pts; St. Peter's BC Road bt KC International by nine (19-10) pts; KC Public School bt BSF School by 16 (23-07) pts; JK Public bt Jodhamal School by eight (18-10) pts. Preliminary round: KC Public bt MHAC Nagbani by 19 (26-12) pts; BS School bt Army Public School Domana by 14 (26-12) pts; St.Peter's BC Road bt SOS Gole Gujral by 17 (20-03) pts; KC International School bt Delhi Public School by seven (17-05) pts; Model Academy bt St. Peter's Karan Bagh by 12 (17-05) pts.
Meanwhile, in under-14 category, St. Peter's, JP World, MHAC Nagbani, JP World and KC International qualified for the semifinals today. Now, in the semifinals, St. Peter's shall meet MHAC Nagbani while KC International shall take on JP World School. The Results: Quarterfinals: St. Peter's bt JK Public by two (10-08) pts; MHAC Nagbani bt Army Public School Domana by nine (13-04) pts; KC International bt Model Academy by seven (14-07) pts; JP World bt KC Public by seven (14-07) pts. Record participation in Football Meanwhile, a record participation was there in boys' under-14 and under-17 football event which surprised the organizers. The play ground at GGM Science College gave a festive look with young footballers clad in colourful sports kits spread all around the grounds.
The presence of these high spirited young participants from the private schools of the city indicated at a bright future for the game of football in Winter Capital. Except for Government SRML Higher Secondary School, there was hardly any participation from other government-run institutions. In all, 23 teams got registered in under-17 category while 16 are there in under-14 age group. The Results: Under-14: JK Public School bt Tiny Tots 3-0; KC International bt BSF School Paloura 4-3 in tie-breaker. Under-17: Army School Domana bt Tiny Tots 3-0; JP World bt St. Peter's 4-0; SOS Gole Gujral bt Delhi Public School 3-1; Jodhamal School bt Heritage School 2-1.
HOCKEY: Under-17: St. Peter's HSS Karan Bagh bt New National Memorial HSS Simbal 3-0; Government HSS Gole Gujral bt GHS Simbal Camp 2-0; SOS Gole Gujral bt Guru Harkrishan Memorial HS Simbal 4-3 in tie-breaker. Under-14: SOS Gole Gujral bt Government Hingh School Simbal Camp 2-0. HANDBALL: Delhi Public School Jammu bt HS Chander Bagha Akhnoor 4-2; KC Public School bt Heritage Public School 5-3.
Earlier, the competitions were declared open by District Youth Services and Sports Officer Jammu, Tirath Ram at GGM Science College ground. He was accompanied by Physical Director of the College, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Mulkh Raj Sharma, RC Vaid, Ram Kumar, Sher Singh, Jeet Singh, Indira Khashu, Vijay Mala and Harvinder Kour (all ZEPOs). In all, there are 1100 participants taking part in four events of hockey, handball, basketball and football in two age groups.
