Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 22 : Govt. Degree College Udhampur has been upgraded by the University Grants Commission as a Post Graduate College wide Order no. 8-595/2011(CPP-I/C) dated 23rd Jan, 2012. The order reads as, " Now, the college has been included in the list of Colleges under section 2(f) & 12(b) of the UGC Act of 1956 under the head 'Government Colleges Teaching up to Master's Degree". Established in 1961, GDC Udhampur was recognized by the UGC under section 2(f) & 12(b) of the UGC Act of 1956 under the head 'Government Colleges Teaching up to Bachelor's Degree'. Though the College has been offering Post Graduate courses in the subjects of English and Hindi sanctioned by the State Govt. & affiliated to University of Jammu, Jammu since 2003-2004 but it is only now that the college has been declared as a PG College after the college applied for the same. This College has become the first recognized PG College in the state. Principal of the College Dr. Nutan Kumar Resutra congratulated the HoDs of the PG Depts and UGC Committee members for their persistence efforts for this upgradation. " This shall help the college's PG Depts to avail financial assistance from the UGC starting from the 12th Plan, for which we otherwise could not even apply.Till date there was no provision of finance to the Dept. other than its local fund. This apparently speaks about the ever-emerging dynamism of this college that has a huge potential to be an educational leader in the state," he added It's worth mentioning here that eversince their introduction, the PG Courses have met with a huge response from the students with a 100% admission and have earned enviable position in the University exams., needless to mention University positions to their credit.
These Depts. have been catering to the needs of the students from all the far-off areas of Jammu province ranging from Poonch to Banihal. The grants to be received from the UGC will help enhancing basic infrastructure and facilities.
