Azad, Soz; Estranged rivals mending fences? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 22: Ex-Chief Minister and Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad and President of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Prof. Saifuddin Soz have been forced to close the gaps in public. They have been told to discipline Congress across Jammu and Kashmir. Senior Congress leaders in New Delhi have appreciated the recent statements of both Soz and Congress yet they are keeping a close eye on the political activities of leaders representing the two Congress factions. Through means other than the ones already in Public domain, sources said that top congress leaders in New Delhi are keenly watching political developments in Jammu and Kashmir. They added that newspaper reports and other inputs from various reliable sources are being used to access the fresh bonhomie between the two top leaders of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. However, certain reliable sources said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi's latest attempt to strengthen Congress in Jammu and Kashmir may fail to make an impact. They said that return of Ghulam Nabi Azad to Jammu and Kashmir politics, who is regarded for his political mavericks is not without a reason. Azad has read the writing on the wall that Congress led United progressive Alliance (UPA) is unlikely to return back to power in New Delhi, said the sources while disclosing that being aware of his clout in Jammu and Kashmir, Azad is seriously considering a comeback. They said that Azad knows well about leadership crisis in Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. "He knows, minus JKPCC president Prof. Saifuddin Soz, Congress has no leader or in other words, a potential Chief Ministerial candidate. He further knows that barring Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma and his brother Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma, all the other Congress leaders would not be able to stand before his political expertise. Azad could not complete his first tenure as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He had to resign under severe stress and political trouble. This is in the back of Ghulam Nabi Azad and it is because of this reason that he is playing safe by not speaking in public against his rivals. Sources disclosed that confident of romping home with thumping numbers in the assembly elections, whenever they are held, Azad's reference to workers being annoyed with him was merely intended at making up with the distressed and annoyed lot in Jammu and Kashmir Congress. Sources further said that Azad has begun talks and parleys with several ministers and legislators of Congress, who are presently in Soz team. They said that though he has not met with much success yet he has not left making efforts to get their grievances redressed and make them part of his plans for early 2013 0r late 2013 assembly elections. Sources asserted that coalition is unlikely to complete tenure since NC would not be able to tolerate an assertive Congress for long especially if the one making moves from the backyard is Ghulam Nabi Azad. On the contrary, Prof. Saifuddin Soz is keeping up with battle to take Congress to every nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir. But if New Delhi begins giving too much space to Ghulam Nabi Azad, Soz may throw a shocker to surprise including the top Congress leadership. He is regarded by one and all as man with clean political habits. He has the backing of most of the Congress leaders who were once close confidants of Ghulam Nabi Azad. It is now to be seen how Congress approaches the Kashmir puzzle in the days ahead.
