GB Pant Hospital mess: Congress ministers on safe side of fence….?
Can't escape blame on loopholes in system

early times report
Jammu, May 22: The GB Pant imbroglio is yet to be over, even as the government post infant death furore took several measures to put things in place and retrieve the system to save innocent lives. While media and opposition , rightly so are trying to unfold and unravel the real truth about the avoidable tragedy, the storm that erupted politically over the issue has not yet pacified. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his government continue to be targeted for all loopholes that led to unfortunate happenings perpetuating for months, Congress, the main alliance partner is mysteriously silent and its ministers continue to position themselves on the safe side of the fence. The moot question remains can Congress on moral grounds escape the blame for the mess in the Hospital, also in the wake of the fact that Medical Education department portfolio is taken care of by one of the ministers from this party.
That entire hierarchy of NC including the High command is angry the way Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad called shots the other day and tried to put the whole blame on NC is something fair on part of the party to feel so. For one it is NC alone which is running the coalition government. For any big or small achievement, when it is expected of NC to share the credit with Congress and give equal regards for latter's contribution in development and progress of the state, likewise for any failure or wrong thing, both partners should share the blame, which in this case did not happen despite the fact that medical education department is headed by the Congress minister RS Chib . In fact Congress as ally and all its ministries are to be equally blamed for these infant deaths.Ridden with deep factionalism and loyalty culture, ironically all the Congress ministries are often at logger heads with each other, each trying to secure and add its turf even at the expense of health of people, which clearly reflects from the state of affairs in the hospitals in twin capital cities, not to speak of those in rural areas. It's in this context that eyebrows are being raised over the statement of union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad blaming the State for not adequately availing Central assistance for improving health of the hospital. Azad should have equally taken to task the ministers of his party as well. He should have interacted, enquired about the scenario in the hospital from his own ministers first than raising fingers at NC alone. Even though the Cong is divided on factional lines, but the ministersshould have been sensitive to the needs of the patients. It's alsoreflective of the state of affairs of the ministers who are more concerned about concentrating on their constituencies rather than onthe ministries. This fact has also been raised by Azad himself and had expressed serious concern over it. But despite repeated concerns nothing concrete was done to correct this attitude of the ministers, even atthe expense of the people of the state. The absence of proper health care facilities in remote districts is alsobecause of the absence of the doctors there. Ironically it is Azad himself who has asserted this number of times that doctors should spend initial years in rural years, but his instructions have ignored not adhered strictly by the state government, of which his party and ministers are equal partners. It is high time Congress ministers also concentrate on matters of governance rather than focusing only on their political constituencies.
