KP youth threaten hunger strike if demands not met | | | early times report Jammu, May 23: Accusing Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of failing to implement PM’s employment package for migrants, Kashmiri Pandits today threatened to re-start their hunger strike from June 5. "We warn the state government if they fail to fulfill the commitments made by Omar to us within 13 days, we will be forced to restart hunger strike from June 5 in Lal Chowk , Srinagar," Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) chief R K Bhat told reporters here. The 22-day-long strike, launched by KPs on March 13, was suspended on April 3 after ministers Raman Bhalla and Nasir Aslam Wani assured them of implementing the PM employment package in toto. The government had also agreed for enhancing cash assistance in favour of relief holders and issuance of ordinance for protection of Shrine and Temples bill in JK legislature. "Over one month has passed and nothing has been done till date in this regard, putting question marks on the intentions of the government," Bhat said. Accusing the Government of betrayal Bhat said the displaced youth will no longer tolerate its discriminative policies and smelling a rat he said there is a deliberate move to sabotage the PM's employment package by some vested interests. The KP youth have been totally ignored in last 22 years of turmoil so for as providing Government jobs is concerned though over three lakh people were appointed on regular and temporary posts. This package instead of doing good to the community youth ahs added to their desperation as hundreds of youth doing good in private sector had left their jobs to work in their mother land for restoring its age old pluralistic culture. But it seems that some people within State Government are not interested in the same and they are working on the whims and fancies of the separatist elements.
