MLA Langate lashes out at Mirwaiz Hurriyat | 'They are preparing for 2014 elections' | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 23: MLA Langate, Engineer Rashid lashed out at Hurriyat (M) for ‘nurturing double standards’. He was addressing a press conference in the summer capital today. Rashid claimed that the recent rally of Bilal Lone at Langate was attended by panches and sarpanches. He showed a video clip in support of his claim. The rally had been held to commemorate the death anniversary of Peoples Conference founder and senior Hurriyat leader, Abdul Ghani Lone who was gunned down by unidentified gunmen at Eidgah, Srinagar a few years ago. Rashid identified panches and sarpanches listening keenly to Lone. "They (Hurriyat M) leaders are preparing for 2014 elections. I am part of electoral politics and cannot, therefore, condemn or criticize it. But the Hurriyat leaders must be straight. Why nurture double standards to mislead gullible public? If they are interested in elections, they must come forward. I welcome them", he said. Rashid smiled sarcastically over pro-freedom slogans chanted in the rally. "What Azadi and for whom?" he questioned. "The leaders are on the prowl for proxy candidates for 2014 elections", he said. Rashid said the on-going movement was not anybody’s property. "Besides a few Hurriyat leaders, around one lakh lesser mortals have also been killed", he said. Rashid's disclosure comes only two weeks after Professor Abdul Ghani's `controversial' Sopore statement wherein he suggested an alliance with pro-Indian political parties. He also rejected UN resolutions as a solution to the problem. Professor Bhat's statement caused ripples in Hurriyat (M). A scuffle between Shabir Shah and Bilal Lone outside the Hurriyat headquarters at Rajbagh, Srinagar evoked severe reaction from the public.
