EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 24: Sangarsh Samiti which spearheaded the 63 day long land row in 2008 today condemning the dilly dallying approach of state government to implement agreed and appealed the state government to implement the agreement soon. "It is most disappointing to point that most of the commitment made by the J&K Govt are yet to be full filled despite repeated reminders from Samiti to the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu (Nodal Authority) appointed by the Govt and other concerned quarters, said recently appointed convener Pawan Kohli in a press conference here today.
To point out few of the clauses of the agreement are as given hereunder:-
Kohli said, "During the course of discussions, presented a fourteen-point 'Charter of Demands' for consideration by the State
Government and took up main demands like withdrawal of criminal cases against various persons during the period of agitation, provision of compensation to the families of the deceased and to the injured and working out of appropriate packages of financial assistance to compensate losses of the transport sector, trade and industry, horticulture sector, hoteliers and tourist operators. "The State Government has agreed to examine all these demands in a appropriate manner on time-bound basis, he added.
New Convener Pawan Kohli, said that it was resolved to take up the matter with the new incumbent i.e. Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and apprise him about the state of affairs regarding the core issues of the agreement and impress upon him to take urgent steps in the implementation of various clauses of said agreement, otherwise the people who have lost their patience in such a long wait may resort to agitational path.
He said that this year too the duration of yatra is becoming an issue as the Shrine Board is adamant about the date of start of yatra and deviating from traditional Jyeshth Purnima falling on June 4. "Samiti fully support the public demand for keeping duration of yatra at least for two months which carries the logic and caution the Govt to avoid confrontation with religious sentiments of Hindus which may disturb the existing peaceful atmosphere of the State, he said .
