5/24/2012 10:47:08 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
KISHTWAR, May 24: PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayed today called upon UPA to accelerate peace process with Pakistan to establish sustainable peace in the sub-continent.
Addressing a public rally here, he hoped that the on going dialogue between the two countries would be taken to its logical conclusion.
Since Pakistan was giving encouraging response to the dialogue process with India, it was an appropriate time to speed up the reconciliation process, Syed said, while mentioning the secretary-level talks between the two countries.
Reiterating resolve of his party to make Kashmir a bridge between India and Pakistan for strengthening relations between the two countries, he said that PDP had already played historical role in normalizing relations between India and Pakistan.
He observed that opening of cross LoC routes was the biggest ever CBMs between the two countries and "credit for it goes to PDP".
Commenting on the report of three interlocutorsthe PDP leader said that they too had emphasized on further facilitating cross-LoC trade and travel. It was all due to the efforts of PDP that routes for cross-LoC trade and travel was opened, he added.
Blaming successive NC regimes for creating trust deficit between the people of the state and the people of rest of the country, he said that his party would remove this trust deficit.
"We will not only remove this trust deficit but also take some concrete steps to strengthen relations between the residents of different regions of the state", he said, adding, "PDP through its policies would remove the walls of hatred".
Expressing his concern over the problems of common masses due to the alleged misgovernance of the present dispensation, he said that the Omar Abdullah-led regime had failed to carry forward the agenda of development which was initiated by the PDP-led regime. He regretted that various developmental works, which were started during the PDP-led regime, were still incomplete.
Pointing towards poor road connectivity in Kishtwar district, he demanded that work on Singthan-Kishtwar road should be expedited and work on Vailoo tunnel be also completed at the earliest.
He said that completion of Singthan-Kishtwar road would open new avenues for this backward and neglected belt of the state. He said that due to poor road connectivity, accidents had become a routine affair in this belt. He exhorted the people to agitate for their demand of better road connectivity and other basic amenities like health and education.
He regretted that the progammes like Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) were not properly implemented in this belt. Most of the projects sanctioned under PMGSY were incomplete due to the alleged nexus between contractors and influential persons, he added. He told the gathering that the PDP-led regime had formulated various developmental projects for the backward and neglected areas but the present government had failed to complete those projects. He listed various such projects.
He said that the PDP-led regime had upgraded and opened a large number of schools in backward areas but the present regime had failed to streamline their functioning.
