Various political non political organizations resent 'petrol hike' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 24: Various political and non political organizations rising above their political differences and party lines condemned the petrol hike and staged protest today and demanded roll back recent hike of recent hike at earliest. A large number of Jammu Kashmir Democratic Front (JKDF), activists including women held a protest rally against the hike in petrol and diesel prices by the Central Government. Protestors led by Arun Khanna district president JKDF (Urban) started their march from Raghunath Bazar which culminated at Purani Mandi Chowk. Addressing the protestors Arun Khanna condemned the hike of petrol prices by the Central Government and feared that that it would have a adverse impact on the common masses. Murari Lal Balgotra (Sr Core Committee Member JKDF), Shruti Khajuria (District President Ladies Wing), Munish Khajuria (President Youth Wing), Surinder Sharma (Sr Core Committee Member) and other Core Committee members of JKDF. A similar protest was organized by Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which was organized by BJP District Jammu Mahanagar President Rajesh Gupta, In a unique protest the BJP protestors started march from party hqrs against the recent hike in the price of petrol, sitting on the horse carts and carrying placards depicting slogans against the decision of the UPA against price hike of petrol, the protestors were demanding early roll back to recent hike as it will adversely affect the process of essential commodities. Rajesh Gupta criticizing the Congress-led UPA for this unprecedented hike in the price of petrol said that this hike will make survival of common man belonging to each strata of society very difficult. He said, "During three years of its rule UPA has raised petrol and diesel prices several times burdening the common masses. Meanwhile BJP leaders warned the party will further intensify their agitation in case the UPA do not take back the decision of hiking the petrol prices. Meanwhile Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of its state president Tulsi Dass Langeh has condemned the recent high hike of more than Rs.7.50 per litre on petrol. Speaking in the meeting Langeh said that inflation (high price) was already at its peak and it is a matter of great concern. Rakesh Wazir state general secretary of the party asked the Government to immediately roll back the price hike without any delay. In a press statement issued here today CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today flayed Central Government for hiking petrol prices by Rs 7.50, saying the step up in the fuel prices entails cascading effect on all commodities that hits the interests of the poor and lower middle class. The highest ever price hike shows that the Central Govt. is no more concerned about the common man but to safeguard the interests of the oil companies. "The food inflation and depreciation of rupee have already worsened the economic condition of the people and the hike in petrol prices will add to it. Justifications by the Govt. that depreciation of rupee, losses to oil companies and jump in oil import bill have necessitated the price hike are unreasonable and unrealistic, he said. Terming the decision of petrol price hike as callous attitude on the part of the UPA Government, the CPI(M) demanded its immediate roll back and regulation of the Govt run oil companies so as to ensure minimum hikes in petroleum products whenever the same is necessitated. Meanwhile a large number of activists under the banner of Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM took out today a protest against petrol price hike and burnt effigy of Congress led Central UPA Govt. Sunil Dimple President Jammu West Assembly Movement has called for the Jammu Bandh on May 31 against the rising prices and increase in the petrol prices. Yet in another protest against petrol hike Kranti Dal organized a protest on the issue of rising petrol prices at Indira Chowk, Jammu. Led by President Kranti Dal, Raj Roop Singh and state General Secretary Pritam Sharma, the protestors holding placards in their hands with anti UPA government give vent to their ire. Pritam Sharma said that in last 63 years, it is the highest hike in petrol price which break the backbone of common people and the present UPA Govt is hell bent to burden the common masses Kranti Dal also took out a Shav yatra of UPA from Indira Chowk to Raghunath Bazar. Kranti Dal also organized protests in their respective areas like Sunderbani, Rajouri, Kalakot, Ramnagar, Kathua, Nagrota, R.S.Pura, etc. Our Kathua correspondent adds : Resenting the petrol hike BJP Kathua unit, organized a protest cum cycle rally at Shaheedi Chowk under the leadership of Chaggar Singh. The protestors also burnt the effigy of the central government. Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha activist led under the leadership of Gopal Mahajan also joined in the protest. |
