| Bunglings in DBPS elections alleged | | | Jammu | Jan 30 K L Sharma a candidate for the post of General Secretary for the elections for Dogra Brahaman Pratinidhi Sabha being held, has alleged large scale irregularities and rigging of the elections indulged into by the incumbent office bearers of the Sabha, in connivance with the activists of a political party, J&K Praja Parishad. As a protest against whole hog rigging of the elections, Sharma has boycotted the election process. He has alleged that although he had filed his nomination papers for election to the post of General Secretary of the Sabha, no voter list and even the copy of the constitution of the Sabha ware issued to him, despite his repeated requests in writing. In gross violation of the constitution of the Sabha, which provides for holding the elections for office bearers on a single date and at a single place, the election process was diversified and polling conducted at different places, on different dates. Even here venues of the polling stations are arbitrarily changed at the last moment, without intimating to all the candidates and even electorates. So much so that the observers appointed by the court to supervise the elections were kept in dark about the shifting of the polling stations. To manipulate the elections in favour of the candidates belonging to the Praja Parishad, the polling was conducted at places away from the district or tehsils headquarters and held at places where the favourite candidates of the incumbent group have their own supporters among the voters and where they could easily resort to booth capturing. For instance instead of Kathua and Hira Nagar, the polling station foe electrorates from these areas was kept at Gura Mundia. Instead of Sambha the polling stations were held at Vijaypur and Gura Brahamana. For Doda district instead of main towns like Doda, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah the polling station was at Thathri. The presiding officers as well as the polling officers, all were activists of Praja Parishad. Thus an attempt has been made by the Praja Parishad to capture the purely social organization, Brahaman Pratinidhi Sabha, in total violation of the Sabha constitution, Sharma has alleged.
