Youth Congress elections further fuel infighting in PCC | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 24: Unity mantra among warring factions of Congress confined only to statements because on the ground, the leaders belong to different factions are fighting with each other openly. The on-going elections of Pradesh Youth Congress (PYC) president have further fueled the infighting and both the factions have planted proxy candidates in each others constituencies. Faction of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has fielded a number of candidates in the constituencies represented by the loyalists of Pradesh Congress Committee Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz. Similarly Soz loyalists have also fielded candidates in the constituencies represented by Azad supporters. Sources in the Congress said that infighting in the State unit of Congress would be further intensified in the days to come because both the groups want to tighten its grip in the party. It is almost certain that Prof Said Ud Din Soz would be re-elected as president of the PCC and decision for his reappointed as PCC would be only a formality. Azad group has devised a strategy to exert pressure on Prof Soz to keep him under pressure. Azad faction has been trying its best to ensure that candidate of only their choice would be elected as PYC president so that a parallel would be run to counter official PCC. The Soz faction, on the other hand, is also utilizing its full energy to capture the post of the PYC president to strengthen hands of Soz. It is pertinent to mention here that during the delegation session at Srinagar on May 19, all Congress leaders had pledged to work for unity of the party. In the presence of Janardhan Diwevedi, general secretary AICC who was especially deputed by AICC president Sonia Gandhi, all Congress leaders had given a clarion call to the party cadres in Jammu and Kashmir to close their ranks and strengthen the party for service to the people of the State. They also gave a clear message to the party cadres to sink their differences and work unitedly and promote party interests in all the three regions of the State. |
