Rahul Gandhi's Youth Congress on warpath | Amidst pledge for Unity, rivalry continues | | SALIL RAINA Poonch, May 25: Leaders with chocolate faces have a heavy head. Thus goes the ancient adage. It seems the adage has been carved out for Rahul Gandhi and Omar Abdullah. Both are on verge of losing their credibility as strong anti- incumbency factor against them increases with every passing day. The much talked about youth elections in JK have deepened the wedge in the Congress factions. The experiment of roping in members of other parties has failed. The Congress workers are annoyed and termed he exercise futile. Rahul's plan of inviting youth into politics has turned out to be a flop show with every district showing the membership graph as all time low. It is a clear indication that Rahul Gandhi has lost the touch with the youth. In the recently held youth elections shows that the wedge in the Congress is too deep to be bridged. Senior members are interested in damage control but are reluctant to open themselves anticipating strong action from high command. On the contrary youth members who did maximum for the party were ignored and it leads to factionalism among traditional youth leadership of Congress. Majority of youth leaders see their future in jeopardy. In the recently held two day Congress delegates conference in Srinagar, many senior Congress leaders also hinted about factionalism in Congress, but added quickly, it is better for the health of the party. Though both the groups pledged to work together to strengthen the party, the rivalry has not ended with each faction trying to score points against the other. Youth Congress has a vision document which shows that the IYC seeking youth to participate actively in politics to give a new shape to Country's development and in each district of the country, a democratic process of election is there to select office bearers for Youth Congress. A code of conduct is also in place for all youth Congress members, but the code was thrown to the winds during the recent elections. Congress members have gone to the extent by saying that Rahul Gandhi is digging the grave for Congress. He has been advised to mature. With Municipal elections round the corner, the Congress has to set its house in order to realize the dream of forming a government on its own.
