Interlocutors report factually incorrect | | | Early Times Report Jammu,May 26: The spiral of violence started with the death of teenager Tuffail Matoo. He died after being hit by a tear gas shell. The shell was fired by State police rather than the central security forces. The killing was the result of the mishandling of the situation rather than the Centre. In the initially days of the stone-pelting , the CM Omar Abdullah had publicly dismissed the initial incidents blaming media for projecting them out of the proportion. He had said that the incidents have taken place in one or two places and it shouldn't be projected as the Kashmir is burning. The CM had even gone into the record to the extent saying that State can't be held to ransom by some stone pelters. It was the miscalculation both on law and order front and on governance that actunated the problem. The anger exploded against the local Government rather than the Centre. The interlocutors must also factor in the statement of no less than Home Minister P Chidambaram, who had appointed them that, the 'the State Government is suffering from trust deficit." It clearly reflected that problem was State Government was not connected with people and he had asked for approaching the people shows that anger was brewing against State Government which gained explosive nature. It must also be bore in mind that no where in the entire picture the Army was on the streets. It didn't come in contact with protestors, though attempts were made to drag it. Army is most important symbol of India State, and if it was not involved that how come anger be targeted against the Centre. The Centre started coming into picture when Law Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar criticized the CRPF for use of force. It was aimed at diverting attention from the State Government and State police. It was only after the situation started deteriorating that home secretary got involved in doing job which was primarily the job of the State Government. But its failure to do so, with both CM, Ministers and MLAs, confined to their homes, that Centre was forced to come into the picture. It was because of the initiatives of the Centre, like issue being discussed in Parliament and All party delegation visits to the Kashmir and appointment of interlocutors eased the situation rather than aggravating it. This simple suggestion clearly reflect that interlocutors report is not only flawed but is factual incorrect. |
