40 additional companies deployed for Amaranath yatra: IG | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 26 : Ahead of annual Amarnath pilgrimage scheduled to begin from June 25 from here, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone Dilbagh Singh today said about 40 additional companies have been deployed along the National Highway for smooth and incident-free yatra. "Security has been tightened and further preparations are being reviewed in meetings from time to time regarding Amarnath Yatra scheduled to start from June 25," Mr Singh told reporters at the sidelines of a police function here this afternoon. The IGP said so far about 40 companies of police and para-military troops have been deployed from Lakhanpur to hilly Banihal area in Ramban district along the National Highway. "The security will be further beefed up prior to the yatra period," the top cop said. On present militancy related situation in Jammu region, Mr Singh said, "overall situation is peaceful and the militancy has almost been wiped out from hilly terrains of Jammu." He added that with the elimination of Hizb Divisional Commander Ghulam Qadir today, 29 militants are still operational in Jammu region. "Security forces and Army are on job and in the coming days, the zone will completely be militancy free," he said. The IGP also lauded the efforts of civilians for cooperating with the police and army, which helped them in successfully launching and conducting operations. |
