| Protesters block Jammu-Poonch highway over police failure to nab accused | | SHO's PSO receive injuries in clash between police, protestors | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 27: The traffic on ever busy Jammu-Poonch highway today remained disrupted for over three hours as a protest sparked over killing of a youth in a hit and run case here today. The protestors laid the body of a youth who succumbed to injuries in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) l and demanded action against the auto rickshaw driver who escaped from the spot after hitting the youth in Kanachak. To resume the vehicular movement, SHO Kanachak along with police team reached on the spot but protestors refused to budge which caused clash between police and protestors. In the melee a PSO of SHO identified as Vijay Kumar received injuries. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
It is pertinent to mention here that on May 22 an auto driver identified as Bhopal Chand son of Krishan Lal hit a motorcyclist identified as Sukhdev Raj son of Kaka Ram. The auto driver after hitting the motorbike rider fled from the spot leaving the injured in a pool of blood. The youth was later rushed to the GMC hospital where after week long treatment he succumbed to injuries.
Irate over police failure to nab the absconding auto driver, the relatives of the deceased held protest demonstration against police and blocked the road. However, the protestors were pacified after intervention of senior police officers. |
