Govt to concede employees' demands in phased manner | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 27: Following the plan of employees embarking on a fourth phase of agitation the National Conference led Government has decided to concede main demands of the employees in a phased manner. Official sources said today that as far as the demand for raising the retirement age the Government has decided to raise it by one year. Hence employees would retire at the age of 59 instead of 58. The Sources made it clear that the Government would have raised the retirement age by two years to bring at a par with the retirement age of the central Government employees but continued financial stringency has forced the Government to raise the age only by one year. As far as the demand for regularization of services of those recruited on adhoc or daily wage basis the Government plans to concede the demand in a phased manner. Those employees who have been working on adhoc basis or as daily wagers for more than five to seven years would be considered for permanent jobs depending on their age, physical fitness and performance. With the regard to the demand of Anganwari workers and employees appointed on contract basis for regularisation of ser vices the Government plans to apply the same yardsticks it was applying in regularisation of services of those recruited on adhoc basis and as daily wagers. Regarding the demand of the employees for clearing the 6th pay commission arrears the state Government is said to have approached the centre for additional financial help so that the 6th pay commission arrears were cleared in two to three installments. Government circles made it clear that the ruling coalition was worried over the fate of over six lakh unemployed youth. It was keen to first find out job avenues for these unemployed boys and girls before it could clear the arrears of the 6th pay commission. These circles said that the Government had never r ejected the employees' demand for payment of 6th pay commission arrears. They said that these arrears may be cleared within next six months. In view of the changed attitude of the ruling coalition the Government has renewed its appeal to employees to give up their path of agitation and wait for sometime more for seeking all their demands fulfilled. |
