MLCs from Panchayats' quota should be non-partisan: AJKMPJ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 27: Demanding due weightage to the functions of sarpanches and panches, the All J&K Movement For Peace and Justice (AJKMPJ) said today that they are elected representatives of the public and not toys of the politicians. In a press handout issued here today, an active member of AJKMPJ, Kuldeep Kumar Rao said that MLCs from Panchayats' quota should be elected on non party basis and from among the sarpanches and panches only. Rao said that ever since sarpanches and panches were elected, they are being made to shuttle to and fro to attend the series of meetings at Block level and District level but they are not been paid a single penny as TA/DA. Moreover the government has neither announced any pay in their favour nor seems to do so in future, he added. He further said that an MLA is being paid nearly Rs 1 lakh monthly salary for the job. The responsibility of a sarpanch is going to be as hectic as that of an MLA in their area, so why should he not be paid salary. AJKMPJ leader demanded RS 10,000 per month as salary/ remuneration for sarpanches while he sought Rs 3000 per month as perks for panches. Rao appealed to all the Sarpanches and Panches to get united and fight unitedly for their rights and also vote against coalition candidates in the coming elections to the 2 seats of MLCs of panchayat quota for its deliberate failure to empower the Panchayats and not extending the provisions of 73rd and 74th amendments of Indian constitution in the state. These MLC seats are only for sarpanches and panches to highlight the problems of rural areas in Upper House and not for defeated candidates of political parties/ coalition government, he added. |
