Rivalry continues to haunt Congress party | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, May 27: Twenty-four hours before the final round of much hyped Youth Congress election in Kishtwar, the rivalry between two factions one led by Ghulam Nabi Azad and the other by professor Saif-ud-Din Soz continued to haunt the Congress party. The faction led by Azad has demanded immediate election posts. The elections were postponed last week following allegations of irregularities in the voter list. The group has demanded inclusion of 580 members that were left out. The postponement of elections, however, evoked severe criticism from Soz loyalists. The Azad loyalists also accuse the election commissioner of creating confusion by his order of postponement. Meanwhile, Suman Thakur, a leader owing allegiance to Azad group wrote to senior party leaders including Jammu and Kashmir Youth Congress election commissioner Sachin Naik and incharge all India Youth Congress election cell Sachin Rao and demanded fresh elections for Kishtwar constituency to enable youth Congress activists of Kishtwar Constituency to exercise their franchise freely and fairly. He urged Sachin Naik to issue a direction to Congress party state election commissioner not to make the result public till the elections of Youth Congress for Kishtwar constituency are held. He reiterated his stand of mass resignation from then membership of the party if justice was not done. He sought intervention of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Rahul Gandhi to give justice to hundreds of youth Congress activists of Kishtwar constituency. |
