Rich tributes paid to Gandhi

Jammu , January 30
“The piousness of the spirit lies in serving the cause of humanity, tieng the knots of love, brotherhood and stand like a rock against forces of hatred, communalism, racism and terror for which Mahatma Gandhi is the exemplary figure who stirred the world through instrument of non-violence and peaceful methods”, said Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad while paying rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his martyrdom day at a function organized by Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj and Sadbhavana-ke-Sipahi here today.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Minister of State for Higher Education Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Ch. Manmohan Singh, legislators Mr. M. Y. Tarigami and Mr. G. M. Saroori, Vice-Chairman Gujjar and Bakarwal Advisory Board Haji Buland Khan, Principal Secretary Higher Education Mr. A. K. Angurana, heads of departments, senior civil, police and army officers, State President Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj Mr. S. P. Varma, Mr. Balraj Puri, intellectuals, media persons, political and social activists, Gandhian workers, prominent citizens, a large number of school children and people attended the function.
Chief Minister said since civilization came into existence right thinking and peace loving people have always resisted the forces of terror. He said Namrood, Yazeed, Hitler, General Dyer and thousands of such figures which are symbol of condemnations were championing the forces of violence and using the method of terror to silence forces of peace, love and brotherhood. He said in such a situation remembering Gandhiji on this very day reminds us also of the ugly fate of those who try to silence the phenomenon of love and peace.
Mr. Azad described Gandhiji a real visionary who could peep through the darkness of violence and detect the glittering ray of love and hope in Kashmir. Stressing the need for propagating philosophy of non-violence, tolerance and peace of Gandhiji, he said these are more relevant today and for all times to come. He called upon students to read extensively about Gandhiji, his life and principles to draw inspiration from him.
Chief Minister lauded Mr. S. P. Varma and his associates for doing excellent work in propagating Gandhian ideology of non-violence, peace, secularism, amity and brotherhood in every nook and corner of the state.
Chief Minister also presented Mahatma Gandhi awards-2006 on behalf of Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj and Sadbhavana-ke-Sipahi on the occasion for propagating Gandhian philosophy and his ideals. The award comprised medal, shawl, certificate and portrait of Gandhiji. The awardees were Haji Buland Khan, Mr. P. Namgial, Prof. M. R. Puri, Prof. J. R. Rathore, Mr. K. K. Khosa, Pt. Mool Raj Shastri, Mr. G. R. Hasrat Gadda, Mr. S. P. Sahni, Mr. M. S. Katoch, Mr. Abdul Majid Khan, Mr. Mohammad Saleem Khan, Mr. Joginder Singh Jogi, Dr. Peter Celestian and Mr. Mohammad Yousuf Shan.
Paying rich tributes to Gandhiji, Health and Medical Education Minister Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma said that it was the vision and high principles of non-violence, secularism, amity and peace that everyone rallied behind Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom movement who got freedom for the country through peaceful means. He said other countries also took inspiration from Gandhiji and they too got freedom for their countries by marching on the path of non-violence.
Mr. Sharma while appreciating the organizers for arranging a befitting function to pay homage to Gandhiji, said that all of us should take a pledge on this occasion to make Jammu and Kashmir a Khushal state of the vision of Mr. Azad.
