Traders, hoteliers resent neglect of tourist spots in Jammu region | | | early times report Jammu, May 28 : Those connected with tourist trade in the Jammu region have flayed the state Government for having neglected known tourist resorts in the region resulting in flow of tourist traffic in a trickle to Jammu. Number of transporters and hoteliers in Jammu said that had the Government developed the infrastructure at various scenic spots, inlcuding Patnitop, Mansar, Surinsar, Mantalai, Sudh Mahadev, atleast 10 to 20 per cent tourists from various states in the country would have been visiting these resorts every year.Surjit Singh, who is an employee in a hotel in Jammu, lamented over poor room occupancy in the hotels in the state's winter capital against cent per cent occupancy in hotels and houseboats in Srinagar during the last three months. He and Kartar Singh, who works in a transport company, said that all those tourists who reach Jammu by trains from different states and from some foreign lands, leave for Srinagar every day during the last two months. Not even one per cent of these tourists visit scenic spots in Jammu. Others said that the tourist rush to Srinagar is so high that numbers of excursionists have been forced to take small rooms in private houses on rent.Tourists pay high rates for even dingy rooms and had they any option they would have spent days in tourist resorts in Jammu. They said apart from the Government's failure in building basic infrastructure at Patnitop, Mantalai, Sudh Mahadev, Mansar and Surinsar these tourist spots have not been fully projected in the Government campaign for attracting tourists to Kashmir.Had the Government initiated measures for making tour and travel agents aware of the scenic glory of patnitop,Kud,Sudh Mahadev,Mansar,Mantalai and Surinsar after having built the basic infrastructure Jammu could have attracted part of tourist traffic. |
