Interlocutors present self-contradictory report | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 28: The interlocutors report has admitted that finding permanent political solution to J&K, in the backdrop of many serious and fundamental differences, seems like a search for the proverbial needle in a haystack. It is because of these extreme differences, along regional and religious line, that the report is being slammed from left, right and centre. The three-member team appointed on Oct 13, 2010, had visited the State every month for eleven months. It had received over 700 delegations comprising around 6000 people. It is because of these extreme divergences that report itself is self-contradictory on many issues. The interlocutors while recommending setting up of a Constituent Committee to review all Central Acts extended to the State after the signing of the '53 Agreement, has also observed that retaining many of the Central laws made applicable to the State over the past six decades should not give rise to any objection. The recommendations of interlocutors says: "They must be seen to be what they are: fairy innocuous (not harmful) that enable the State to conform to international standards." The report on the one hand suggested review of Acts applicable to the State but also in the same vain says that 'clock can't be turned back'.' The contradictions are not limited to this only. The interlocutors have suggested that the main reasons for the grouse of Kashmiris is due to the feeling that Article 370 has been weakened and as such there is feeling that it could endanger their identity. In a contradictory tone, they also said that the 2010 violence, which resulted in the death of 110 youth was because the people anger was against Centre and also towards the State Government to an extent. The anger couldn't on account of tinkering of Article 370. And if so was the case, it was never explained by the interlocutors. Important, the spiral of violence during 2010 summer started with the death of Tuffail Matoo. Matoo didn't die in an action by security forces or by the Army, he in fact died in tear gas shell fired by the police. These facts have not been discussed by the interlocutors, which it appears were in a mood to appease the sentiments of each constituency without establishing the genesis of the problem and coming out with the contradictory report. |
