Gareeboon ki suno! | Valley reaction stuns Interlocutors | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 28: Stunned by the reaction from the Valley, New Delhi's Interlocutors on Sunday said they were ready to rectify the report. "If people ask for amendments and corrections, we will recommend the same to the Home Ministry in our feedback report", Radha Kumar told a local newspaper. Expressing her helplessness, Kumar added: "Mandate to incorporate the rectifications lies with Union Home Ministry." The Chief Interlocutor, Dileep Padgaonkar once again expressed his desperation to meet the separatist groups. The separatists had boycotted the interlocutors. Though some second line leaders met them `unofficially', the seniors also remained aloof with Moulana Abbas Ansari being the only exception. The Hurriyat (G) chairman has not even issued a statement on the report. Last week, while addressing a press conference, he did not answer a question from a scribe working for a New Delhi based newspaper when he sought his reaction on the report. "I was expecting this question from you." The poor scribe had to hang his head for a while. The most critical reaction has come from the fourth estate. The Interlocutors have suggested training for the Valley scribes. The remark has been taken with a pinch of salt by the journalists. A senior journalist while expressing his anger said: "What do they want to convey by the way? That the Kashmiri journalists are amateurs?" A team of journalists including led by Rashid Rahi and Ghulam Hassan Kaloo met the interlocutors last year in Srinagar. However, instead of discussing the Jammu Kashmir problem, they sought free flow of DAVP and State Information Department advertisements. Now the Interlocutors have to prepare the feedback report. This means they are still on job. To put it plainly, each one of them will continue to get a monthly salary of Rs 1.50 lakh and the executive assistants appointed by them shall get Rs 40,000 every month. In addition, the interlocutors shall be treated as State guests during their visits to the State. People from all shades of life talked to Early Times. However, all of them expressed similar views. "It is better to meet the District Magistrate. He has the powers to set things in motion", a student said. A teacher made a sarcastic remark. "This time they will be approached by Government officials only. I can foresee the response. I am reminded of the old Bollywood song Gariboon ki sunoo……….." |
