Confusion: Are they still interlocutors for J&K? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 28: It was on October 12 last year that interlocutors Dilip Padgaonkar, Radha Kumar and MM Ansari submitted their report to the Union Home Minister. Immediately after submission of the report, Padgaonkar said that "their job is over" and that "it is now for the Government of India to take action on the report they have submitted". In other words, Padgaokar said he and his other two colleagues were no more interlocutors for Jammu & Kashmir. He said what was needed. However, a report in a local daily does suggest that they are still on job and that they will submit the final report only after getting specific and structured feedback from people of the State. "We want to get specific and structured feedback from them (separatists) about our ideas, analysis and recommendations," Padgaonkar yesterday told the said daily and added that "all views would be taken into account in the feedback report" and that "we will try to get wider response from people of Jammu and Kashmir and the country before submitting our report." Radha Kumar also said almost the same thing. She told the said daily that "we will be shortly on the job of getting feedback from different shades of opinion in Jammu and Kashmir on the report. If people ask for any amendments or corrections, we will recommend the same to the Home Ministry in our feedback report". Padgaonkar had even gone to the extent of saying that he is willing to meet the Kashmiri separatists to ascertain their views on Jammu & Kashmir. What the two interlocutors have said not only created an impression that they continue to operate as interlocutors as before, but also indicated their willingness to change the report under scrutiny taking into consideration the views of those whom they could not meet as well as views of those whom they met with but who are not satisfied with their recommendations. They couldn't meet the separatists like Geelani, Mirwaiz and Yasin Malik because they had refused to meet them despite repeated requests. The Government of India needs to clear the air by telling the country as to what is the status of Dilip Padgaonkar, Radha Kumar and MM Ansari. Such a clarification is a must to clear the confusion created by Padgaonkar and Kumar by saying what they said yesterday while talking to the correspondent of a particular local daily. They just cannot be allowed to conduct themselves in the manner they started. |
