Bizarre: Students accuse teachers of cheating in JU's Phy Edu Deptt. | | | early times report Jammu, May 29: In a bizarre incident, students of department of Physical Education of Jammu University have alleged that the faculty of the department has been resorting to unfair means to benefit a student who is close relative of a senior member of the faculty. In a written representation made to the university authorities, the students have demanded that the center for the MPEd and BPEd examination should not be made in the department so that their teachers could be refrained from indulging in mal practices to benefit the candidate in question. An officer in the university staff administration confirmed that such a representation had been received. "We have not verified if it has been made by regular student(s) of the university" the officer said. However, sources in the department confirmed that illegal favours have been extended to a candidate who is the daughter of one of the members of faculty, a volleyball coach presently working as PTI campus . "Students are irked by the mal-practice of the members of the faculty who openly offer illegal help and allow the candidate in question to use unfair means. This is great dampener for the deserving students who have actually worked hard throughout the year" said an authoritative source adding that norms are flouted with impunity in the department. The said candidate, now appearing in her M PEd Ist year was allegedly offered similar favours in B PEd examination where she undeservingly got much higher percentage than those who worked hard and deserved better result. Sources also confirmed that taking cognizance of the complaint; the university administration has decided to conduct the examination of the department of physical education for the first time at a center outside the department. While students alleging teachers of using unfairmeans could be astounding, favouritism and nepotism in the department of Physical Education is not new. The head of the department, Director Physical Education Dhian Singh Bhau was himself accused of engaging his close relatives as contractual faculty ignoring the permanent members of the staff. Even as Vice Chancellor Prof. M P Singh Ishar has chosen to ignore the allegations of nepotism on the director, he mocked at the administration by recently inducting his spouse into the campus sports committee headed by him despite the fact that she has had no association with sports.
