Who triggered Pandit exodus?
5/30/2012 12:03:32 AM

early times report
Srinagar, May 29 : The National Conference today said Kashmir was incomplete without Pandits. NC spokesman, Tanvir Sadiq while felicitating the Pandits on the occasion of Khir Bhawani festival appealed them to return back. He also accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of triggering the exodus through Jag Mohan.
Tanvir seems ignorant of the history. The people, by and large, believe that the National Conference failed the Kashmiris Pandits at a time when they needed it most. The NC government resigned when things got tough for it in January 1990. The NC leaders say that Dr Farooq resigned to protest appointment of Jag Mohan as governor of the state. But, they forget that Dr Farooq accepted Jag Mohan his Guru and Mentor in 1986. After staying out of power for more than three years, Dr Farooq severed all contacts with the opposition. He behaved like a good boy and New Delhi decided to give him another chance. At a function in 1986, Dr Farooq told Jag Mohan: "Whenever you feel I have gone astray, hold me by my ears and set me right."
One fails to understand as to why and how, Farooq started hating Jag Mohan in 1990 to the extent that he resigned when his `guru' was sent to Srinagar as governor of the state for the second term?

Sadiq also ridiculed PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti for her opposition to appointment of Kuldeep Khoda as CVC. He said that PDP was dancing to the tunes of the BJP. Well, the NC-BJP clandestine affair is no secret today. Seven BJP MLAs voted for NC candidates in Legislative Council elections held last year.

And last but not the least, Congress leader Ashok Bhan in his latest statement has blamed the NC for the mass exodus of Pandits from Kashmir.
As far as bringing the Pandits back to the Valley, the people of Kashmir are working on it. Sooner of later, they will succeed in their efforts. The people of Kashmir will not allow any politician or party to take credit for that.
