JAMMU, May 29: PDP today dashed off a "strongly worded" letter to governor N N Vohra, expressing its unhappiness over the governm-nent's insistence to appoint DGP Kuldeep Khoda as the first chief vigilance commissioner (CVC) of the state.
"How can a person involved in a triple murder case at Bhaderwah become CVC?" PDP president Mehbooba Mufti asked.
The statement was made by her before the petitions filed against Khoda were dismissed by the high court.
"Maximum innocent killings have taken place during Khoda's tenure as DGP (2008-10)," she said and alleged that in the case of Haji Yousaf killing, he was involved in a cover-up.
Mehbooba said the government should not have empanelled a "controversial" person like Khoda in the list of nominees.
She said there were so many eligible people for the post and there was no dearth of them in the state.
The corrupt and undeserving were getting promotions and postings in the state, while the honest and those who were known for their integrity were being sidelined, she asserted.
The PDP leader said she had also written a letter to the governor as regards the government move to appoint Khoda as CVC.
"Instead of punishing him for all the wrong things he has done, the government is rewarding him," she opined.
She alleged that the selection committee's recommendation for Khoda's appointment as CVC was a reward for the retiring DGP for a cover-up operation to save Abdullah family.
"I think this was done to favour Khoda for covering up their crime and corruption. Even the crime branch has nearly established his involvement in the Bhadarwah triple murder case," she alleged.
Earlier, Mehbooba walked out from the selection meeting held in Srinagar, alleging that the retiring DGP had a chequered past.
The meeting, chaired by chief minister Omar Abdullah, was attended by deputy CM Tara Chand, law minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and Mehbooba.
