| Jammers in J&K jails to prevent mobile phone use | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 30: In a bid to keep check on use of mobile phones inside the prisons, the Jammu and Kashmir prisons department is soon going to install high frequency 'jammers' within the jail premises across the state.
"In view of incidents taking place in the recent past like recovery of SIM cards and mobile phones from the possessions of the jail inmates, 'jammers' will soon be installed within the boundary walls to curb the use of mobile phones," Navin Aggarwal, director general of prisons told Aggarwal said check is being maintained in the prisons but due to security reasons, the 'jammers' will be installed adding, "the orders for jammers has already been placed and in a month's time they will be installed and become operational."
Meanwhile, on e-courting, the DGP said, "it is an initiative to maintain surveillance on jail inmates, especially on the hardcore militants." E-court facility is soon going to be started in the prisons of Jammu and Kashmir to avoid any untoward incidents.
"In the first phase, the devices will be installed in both central jails of Jammu and Srinagar followed by Jammu district jail, adding, "Once the e-court facility begins, there will be no need of producing inmates in the Courts in personal as they will appear before the judges through video-conferencing for hearing." |
