Ex-Corporators discuss 'deteriorating power scenario' with CE, PDD
5/31/2012 12:04:50 AM
JAMMU, May 30: In view of the ever increasing temperature which is further compounded by power curtailment has put the residents of winter capital into inconvenience, a group of former Corporators met the Power Development Department (PDD) authorities at Canal road today and discussed the matter with Chief Engineer PDD in order to improve the power situation which is further deteriorating every day. They drew the attention of the Chief Engineer PDD regarding power supply and reminded her that the Government had assured the masses that the areas where electronic meters have been installed will be provided regular supply of electricity as a matter of policy but it is ironical that these metered areas are also facing the erratic power supply. It was asked whether the government has changed its policy to which Chief Engineer replied that she had orders to curtail power supply for eight to eight & half hours which include the fully metered areas and expressed her helplessness though she stated to improve the situation with public support. Dissatisfied over the vague reply, the former Corporators from the city, that include Narender Singh -Ex Mayor, Zaffar Javed Khan, Sanjay Mahey -Ex Chairman Health & Sanitation Committee and Balwant Kumar Ballu, made an appeal to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah , who holds the charge of Electric Department to personally look into the matter as due to scheduled and un-scheduled cuts, the water supply being made by PHE Dept. is adversely affected as a result of which the hapless public is deprived of two essential components of day to day life viz. power and water and implored the CM to streamline the power without any delay failing which the public will be forced to take to streets and the public representatives, the so called leaders, who are enjoying the cool in summer capital may find it difficult to keep away the scorching heat of winter capital.
