9 members of a family among 13 killed as cab falls into Ramsoo nullah | | | early times Report JAMMU, May 30: In one of the worst road accidents on Jammu-Srinagar road, all the 13 persons, including nine members of one family and three of another, who were on board a Tata sumo, were killed after the vehicle skidded off the national highway at Digdol near Ramban, about 160 km from here, and plunged into Ramsoo nullah in the wee hours of this morning. The dead included three children of the two families who were on their way to Srinagar where they worked as shoe shiners and did other menial works. The incident occured at about 3 am while the ill-fated cab (JK14B/0689) was on its way to Srinagar. As it was speeding, it veered off the road before falling into about 800 ft deep Ramsoo nullah at Digdol, police sources said. SP (Ramban) Anil Magotra said there were a total of 13 persons in the vehicle, including 12 passengers and the driver. All of them were killed instantly, he added. The dead were identified as Mohan Lal (45), son of Khanna Ram, his wife Kalu Devi (40), their son Vijay (26) and daughters -- Ashu (17) and Neetu (22), Mohan's brother Mangoo Ram (30), Vijay's wife Rekha (24) and daughter Nandini (1), Navi (3), son of Bablu, Ridhu Devi (35), wife of Kheru Ram, and her daughters -- Payal (17) and Sapna (11) -- and driver Mushtaq Malik (30), son of Abdul Majid Malik. While the 12 passengers hailed from Sundernagar in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, the driver was resident of of Shergarhi, Srinagar. The bodies were evacuated by police to the mortuary of district hospital, Ramban. A case in this connection was registered at the concerned police station.
