Jodhamal goes global, opens first "YES" Centre | | | early times report JAMMU, May 31: In yet another milestone, Jodhamal Public School today launched the globally acclaimed youth empowerment "The International Award For Young People in India (IAYP)" in J & K and parts of Punjab & Himachal Prade. The Youth Engaging Society (YES) centre became operational in Jodhamal Public School premises; this centre is a member of "The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Association" based in London. YES centres are also operational in famous schools like The Doon School, Welham School, The Lawrence School, Sanawar, The Assam Valley school etc. in India and many top ranked schools in around 130 countries. Institution of this centre gives Jodhamal Public School a unique global linkage. Three levels of awards Gold, Silver & Bronze are awarded by "The Duke of Edinburgh's Foundation" based in London. Three teachers from Jodhamal Public School would be going to The Doon School & Daly College in June for further training under this scheme. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Dr. Chander Mohan Seth, the WWF (J & K) Chairperson. The Principal Trilok Singh Bist who has been associated with IAYP for more than a decade explained the ethos & concepts of the programme, which is to reward the students for serving the community. He maintained that the centre would develop resources and encourages the participants to register for taking part in the award programme. "Centre would provide the participants with adult leaders to track progress of "YES" centre participants. "YES" centres are open centres and do not have geographical limitations. So, young should not miss the bus which has arrived in their town", Bist disclosed. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Dr. Chander Mohan Seth (Retd. IFS), who is Chairperson of Jammu Chapter of World Wide Fund (WWF) applauded the school authorities for launching such an innovative programme in Jammu City. Guest of honour Nandan Kuthiala gave an account of school's desire to bring innovation in the learning process of children. He congratulated the school students for having an opportunity to excel on the international arena. The programme concluded with a Dogri Song presented by the students of class 5th and 6th. |
