5/31/2012 11:12:35 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 31 : With Jammu facing worst power crisis in recent past in the midst of most scorching summer, more heartburning than the sweltering heat is the fact that the state government has been discriminating against people of Jammu with regards to distribution of power in the state. The figures provided by the government in the state legislative assembly indicate that the power consumption between Jammu and Kashmir regions is in the ratio of 40:60 while in terms of revenue realization, Jammu contributes more than 66% of power tariff with barely 33 % coming from Kashmir region. The figures indicate highly biased, parochial and discriminatory approach of the state govt. with regard to supply of power and revenue collection in two regions of the state."This is highly unacceptable" said panthers MLA Harsh Dev Singh, vowing to fight such discriminatory tactics tooth and nail. "The people of Jammu would strongly oppose the highly obnoxious treatment doled out to Jammu region" he added.Meanwhile entire Jammu region is confronted with unprecedented power during the ongoing summer season causing acute hardships and inconvenience to the common man. People of the region are made to suffer the worst nightmares due to scorching heat and soaring temperatures with no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power cuts. Despite persistent appeals of the social and political organizations to the PDD and the govt. to adhere to scheduled calendar on power supply, no action has been taken adding to the woes and miseries of common man. The anger is particularly brewing amongst the masses against the public representatives and ministers belonging to Jammu region.
