If Lokpal starts functioning where will NC go? | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 31: National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr Mustafa Kamal today said if Lokpal starts functioning, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will go leader less. Kamal was addressing a one day convention at Shallbug, Ganderbal. Kamaal made a mention of `corrupt' practices of PDP leaders. Kamaal, however, did not mention what people feel about the NC. "If Lokpal starts functioning, the NC leadership will go into hiding." This is what the people by and large believe. Mysterious death of Haji Yusuf, cross voting of seven BJP MLAs during last year's Legislative Council elections are some of the glaring examples that find place at the top of the list of corrupt practices of the NC leadership. Kamala also made a passing reference of 1996 and the sacrifices offered by the National Conference workers. This was the time when Dr Farooq Abdullah formed the notorious Special Operations Group (SOG). And this was the time when Jammu Kashmir became the first state to implement Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) in letter and spirit. Interestingly, it was Mufti Muhammad Sayed who disbanded the SOG and suspended POTA. There may be allegations against the PDP leaders as well but let Kamaal bear in mind that a wrong cannot justify other wrongs. And as far as Accountability Commission is concerned, it remained headless for quite some time. It got a head when civil society and other quarters came out openly against Omar's failure to set the anti-graft body into motion. |
