Div Com's intervention goes in vain | GB Panth Hospital Mess | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 31: Not only lack of infrastructure, the GB Panth hospital has been plagued by employees with political connections. A serious effort was made by some concerned employees to set things right but the efforts went in vain because of patronage accorded to unscrupulous elements by the politicians. On January 25 this year, the Divisional Commissioner vide his DIVCOM/CS-12-31-32 informed the Principal Government Medical College through Assistant Commissioner, Tasaduq Hussain about the irregularities in the hospital. The letter reads: "On 17th January 2012 a team of officers from this office has visited the GB Panth Hospital and found para-medical staff including doctors absent from duty un-authorizedly. On 18th January the following officials of the said hospital came to this office and requested not to take any action against the absentees. They have indicated themselves as self styled Union Leaders. It has been brought to the notice of the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir that they are provoking the other officers and officials of the GB Panth Hospital to go on strike against the administration." The letter identified the erring officials as Farooq Ahmad Ganie (Pharmacist), Fayaz Ahmad, Nissar Ahmad, Nazir Ahmad (All Nursing Orderlies) and Mohamamd Afzal (Electrician). Interestingly all the named officials work on contractual basis. The Assistant Commissioner (acting under the instructions of the Divisional Commissioner) further wrote: "I am , therefore, directed to request please transfer Shri Farooq Ahmad Ganie from GB Panth Hospital to SPM Kupwara and rest of the contractual officials may also be transferred to other hospitals to improve work culture in the GB Panth Hospital. A copy of transfer orders may be sent to this office." (SIC). The orders of the Divisional Commissioner also went in vain. And the mess continues in the hospital to this day. Some employees have expressed surprise over failure of the administration to transfer some of the doctors whose stay in the hospital has exceeded twenty-five years |
