NCC will have 15 lakh cadets by 2015: Col Gurung | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 1: An annual NCC Training Camp is underway at Chutuk Kargil from May 25 which will conclude on June 3. Colonel PB Gurung, SM Commanding Officer 3 J&K Battalion NCC Baramulla is the Camp in charge and 410 NCC Cadets from Kargil, Leh, Nubra and Baramulla besides 40 Instructors including civilian staff are participating. Colonel Gurung said that the aim of NCC is to make these cadets disciplined and responsible citizens and develop in them the leadership qualities. He also highlighted that during the Camp these cadets are being given basic military training on drill, Map Reading, field & battle Craft, Weapon Training, Small Arms firing, Physical Training, camp routine and adventure training like trekking etc. In addition, various social activities like blood donation, tree plantation, traffic management, anti drug drives and so on. While talking to our correspondent Colonel Gurung told that NCC is the only organization in the world which has more than 3 lakh trained and disciplined youths available in the country and by 2015 the cadet strength would be 15 lakh under its expansion programme. During this camp NCC A, B, & C certificate examinations will also be conducted which include both written and practical tests. Colonel Gurung lauded and expressed his thanks for the CO-Operation and assistance provided by the Civil Administration and the Army in Kargil for smooth and successful conduct of the Camp. |
