The details about the FIRs were given to the APDP by the Jammu Kashmir Police in response to an RTI petition. The APDP and IPTK have filed a petition in the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). The petition has been admitted and a double bench of the SHRC is scheduled to hear it on June 6. The petition has sought re-investigation into these 2683 FIRs. The petition also seeks the number of bodies mentioned in these FIRs. Seeking identification of the places of burial of the unidentified persons, the petition wants to know the procedures followed for burial of the bodies. The petition has asked for investigating what identification profile has been maintained for these unidentified persons registered in these 2683 FIRs It also seeks an enquiry into the number of similar FIRs filed in rest of the State. And lastly the petition seeks DNA profiling of all the bodies buried in these graves. Pertinent to mention, the APDP and IPTJ discovered around 3000 mass/unmarked graves in North Kashmir since 2008. Accordingly two reports `Facts underground' and Buried evidence' were produced. The reports created a stir across the globe. The SHRC has admitted presence of more than 2500 unmarked graves in North Kashmir.
