| 2.55 lakh people registered for undertaking Amarnath pilgrimage | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 2 : Though the weather still remained uncertain, hampering the snow clearance operation on both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes, 2.55 lakh pilgrims have been registered so far for undertaking the pilgrimage from June 25. Concerned over fresh snowfall and intermittent rains in the cave shrine and both yatra routes, the authorities and Shri Amarnath Shrine Board have decided to engage extra manpower to clear the routes and camp sites. Chief Executive Officer Naveen Kumar Choudhary said as per the Met department forecast for the next seven days, the entire yatra route could experience intermittent rains.Observing that this is a setback and a matter of serious concern, Governor N N Vohra, who is also chairman of the SASB, has directed the CEO to ensure that additional manpower may be deployed to complete all tasks on a war-footing. A meeting was held at the Raj Bhavan last evening under the chairmanship of Vohra to review the registration status and all other arrangements being made for yatra-2012. After reviewing the pace registration process in various states, the SASB has released additional quota for registration through those bank branches where the earlier allotted quota has been exhausted. Additional quota for online registration through the website of Jammu and Kashmir Bank has also been made available. These decisions were taken in context of the experience of 2011 yatra when the allotted numbers had remained unaltered with certain registration centres while the demand at other centres was relatively very high. |
